Research reportedly found that private single sex girls' schools were educating significantly more female mathematicians, engineers, scientists and linguists than schools catering for both sexes.

A study (by the Children s Rights Director for England) found that boarding schools generally looked after children well - contrary to 'myths' about the boarding environment being a place with high levels of bullying, low levels of care and extreme homesickness. But boarding did not suit every child, and it was vital that the right choice of school was made for the individual child.

The Charity Commission published details of how it would implement the process of carrying out public benefit checks. Charities, such as private schools, that wholly excluded poor people from any benefits, direct or indirect, would not be deemed to operate for the public benefit and would not be allowed charitable status.
